Even with all of the tremendous critiques, many health bill supporters of healthcare reform have asserted that increasing Americans’ access to health insurance plans will wind up saving the whole country money in the long run. While they have acknowledged the need for almost a trillion dollars in expenses, most Democrats in Congress believe that it will result in savings due mainly to an increase in preventative care.
In a recent report released by the Department of Health and Human Services, it states that when taking both public and private costs into account, the current healthcare reform proposals will cause spending on health insurance plans to increase over the years. At present, medical spending makes up about 15% of the GDP: $2.5 trillion each year. Backers of reform have promised that increased efficiency and the lack of a profit motive will drive health expenses down. HHS investigators compared that promise to Medicare, the government-sponsored health insurance coverage for those over the age of 65. Although part of the cost of reform is set to be paid for through $493 billion in cuts and modifications to Medicare, the HHS has found that whenever Congress drastically lowers the program’s budget in one year, at least a portion of it is restored in the next funding.
On a more positive note, if the bill passes, 93% of the country’s population would be covered under numerous health insurance plans. Plus, prominent Democrats such as Chris Dodd claim that reports have shown that the programs will stay solvent for at least 75 years.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas has already raised my health insurance premium by $50.00. Where is the justification? Will they raise it again if a reform bill is passed? I’m 76 years old—–DOESN’T ANYONE CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO THE SENIOR CITIZENS OF AMERICA ??????

Obamacare is crookedcare. It gives the health insurance companies a captive market with the IRS as their collection agency/sales force and NO incentive to drive down premiums; I wouldn’t believe a prediction with Chris Dodd’s name on it if it guaranteed a sunrise every day; it gives Congress the statutory authority to drive health care costs up higher simply by imposing more and more taxes on health care transactions such as sales of durable medical goods and other health-related goods and services.
And that’s just what’s written. Unwritten is the potential for earmarks to be tacked onto Congressional appropriations for health care; more and more exemptions for unions and other special-interest groups from paying their share of health care taxes in addition to what’s already been granted in ‘informal hearings’ - the whole thing is ridden with opportunities for the taxpayer to be robbed with Barack Obama’s fountain pen.

Oh, and you retired folks - notice that you’re paying more and more already for Medicare coverage? Get ready to pay still more and receive still less. Obama has admitted that he and his merry men will loot the Medicare General Fund to pay for all the free stuff to the uninsured. They call it “driving down costs,” but essentially that means “reducing what Medicare pays” - and that seems always to mean “you get less.”

If insuring every one will not decrease the Emergency room use, why is it that the hospital claim that my bill is HIGH because they have to PAY for the uninsured?

Oh, and by the way, does any one know why we have Medicare in the first Place??? Could it be that the insurance industry. back then. would not insure most people when they retired or turned 65. But you can’t blame them, the Insurance industry is a business and a business is there to make money. The assured are their product and as such must be young and healthy, if not, and it starts costing money you get rid of it. Simple isn’t it?

I don’t agree for the health care bill because I am just going on Medicare, and I feel I will have to pay more for medicare to get less, and my tax dollars will be used to pay health insurance for those that can’t or don’t want to afford it. Nothing is free, I should not have to spent the money I worked hard for a long time to get to pay for those that don’t work or have enough money to get their own or are lazy and don’t want to work.

My mother’s on social security and living in an assisted living/senior facility. Her current social security doesn’t even pay for her rent let alone her prescriptions (11 pills morning and 11 at nigt), doctors, and medical bills. I can’t see how taking away from her medicare benefits and charging her more for medicare is going to help. I think this administration must have learned math out of the “new math” books that are being used on our children. By the way, no one is turned away from our hospital and if you ask they will set up payment plans for you, which is what we do. It is simply irresponsible of these people to get services and shrug them off for someone else to pay for. My mother has an on going account at our hospital but by God we pay them every month because that’s the salt we’re made of.

Whom will this bill benifet/ the people of America or the Insurance companys????
Comment by Linda Domagala — March 22, 2010 @ 12:24 pm
Medical care, with all the new technology and drugs, is becoming insanely expensive. Nothing is going to change that, but the more people covered, the more the cost is spread. This is what insurance is a all about. At present, the insurance companies have policies they use to increase profits that does the public great harm. This bill is the government protecting the public from being taken advantage of. But the fact medical care is expensive remains. But people will get care they need more than at present.
That said, the degree that special interest money and taking positions for political gain, rather than what is best for America, we have seen is disgusting.

Ok. I am losing my group health insurance in August as my husband is losing his job. They are keeping us on out of kindness. We have major pre-existing conditions. Cancer and heart condition. These will not be covered for 4 years as I see it. We will have to pay as we go for these for 4 years. They are killing the HSA’s which was my idea of at least covering the existing condition for drugs and anything else that may pop up with a catastrophic policy. I am now at a loss as to what we do. Yes, they talk about a high risk pool but as the rules aren’t written for that yet, I doubt somehow, that we will be eligible. I’m sure the rules will be like Medicaid rules and as we own property etc., won’t be eligible. So at a loss here. As far as I can tell, there is no change for us. We will be uninsured for pre existing conditions for 4 years at least.
